Wolf Prey

Wolf Prey

Here is some information on common wolf prey, including picture references. In wolf hunts, only one in three hunts may be successful. Wolves that hunt in packs normally go for larger prey, while lone wolves and small or weak wolves go for the smaller animals. Wolves only hunt the animals that will be easiest to bring down. This includes the weak, injured, young, and old animals. Wolves do not prey on humans.

SMALL PREY

Rabbit
Rabbits are among the harder prey to catch, just because of their sheer speed and large ears.

Mice
Mice are easier to catch than rabbits, but do not make a very big meal. However, they can be fun play things.

Fish
Wolves enjoy fishing, and most like to play in the water. Fish are also very healthy, and while not being easy they do not need to be chased. It takes a good eye and a quick jab of the muzzle.

Squirrel
Squirrels can only be caught when they are on the ground, and can be fairly tricky to grab before they scamper up another tree.

Beaver
Wolves sometime end up eating beavers because of lack of food. Beavers are not that small, and normally weigh 50-60 pounds.

LARGE PREY

Moose
Moose are very difficult to successfully hunt because of their powerful muscles and deadly hooves. Hunting a healthy moose could very well mean injury or death. As adults, they weigh 800-1500 pounds, or as much as a horse.

Deer
Deer is one of the most hunted easier large animals to bring down. As for any large animal, wolves target the weak, sick, injured, old, and young. As adults, deer weigh 250-300 pounds.

Bison
Depending on where a wolf lives and how far its territory ranges, if bison are in the area, they will be hunted like moose or any other big game. Bison are extremely heavy in weight and have powerful hind legs as well. As adults, bison weigh 1000-2000 pounds.

Seacows

A Seacow, Being Repelled By Anti-Poof Dots. (...)

Seacows are especially dangerous on the chat box. They prey on the people online whom have left without logging off the chat, those that are taking a break, or just not paying attention. Expect an epic battle and escape, like those from the movies, if you are caught by one.
(Chat Only. This is a joke.)
