Had he ruined it already? 'So stupid' he thought backing away slightly sighing. He never liked making others uncomfortable but it seemed he'd just made his possible furtrue friend a little to uncomfortable. Maybe she thought the wrong thing? Maybe she thought he was likening her to much? That was it or it was because his smile was just plain awful. He smiled slightly at his thoughts then stood.

"Well, it was a pleasure meeting you Cayden"

He smiled brightly. At least she was happy that she'd met the goofy male. He sighed letting his ears drop a little. Maybe she wanted him to go so she could think things over? Or maybe she wanted him to leave because she thought he was... 'Oh shut up Cayden' he grunted at himself.

"I have an old friend I must speak with. Would you like to come along?"

He smiled slightly at the thought of taking a walk. "Alright sounds fun"

She dipped her head again, finally speaking in her smooth brisk tone. “I would greatly appreciate such an escort. I agree that an introduction to your leaders in a timely fashion would be desirable.” Her tone was clipped, curt, yet somehow not rude

It was obvious she had not entirely understood the joke. Instead she replied in the same tone as previously - “I don’t understand your implications, is life not a game of survival?”

Pinion nodded respectfully as Thaddea spoke. Though her voice was curt and professional, the male did not feel at all offended by her replies. In fact, the more she spoke, the more intrigued he became by the female’s view of his attempt at good humor. It was clear she had been in a pack before, almost none survived alone in the wilderness, but perhaps not one so big and so tied together as Banishing Winds. Coming to a standstill, Pinion gazed at her with curious eyes. “Yes, life is a game of survival to some. If anything, it is a strategy. But if we are surviving alone, why do we gather to create relationships? Are we not surviving together? Are two wolves who mate on a strictly business relationship?” He questioned, turning to face her once again. “Survival is perhaps the first step of living. We accomplish that which is necessary to continue on and grow old. But after we have gathered all we need, what do we strive for then?”

Pinion found himself with more words than he had spoken with anyone else before. Everything the female said seemed to challenge what he had learned growing up; as if they were two sides of the same coin. “It is difficult to express the difference in words, as I found survival and life different as I grow older, but maybe it is all just a matter of perspective.” He finished, a small smile playing on his muzzle “The name’s Pinion by the way. I’m one of the hunters.”

He had stopped, though she didn’t understand why. They had been moving forward at a pace that was quite pleasing – not so brisk as she normally moved, but not slow enough as to frustrate. It was leisurely, but directed. She had found it almost relaxing. But he had halted, turning to her. She expected it was something she said. She ran back over her words. What had struck a cord? Had she been thoughtless, or worse, careless? She was always impossibly careful in choosing her words, especially in circumstances such as these. She ran back over her words a second, then a third time. No, they were sound, logical, polite. Perhaps something she had said had affected him in a way she could not have predicted. But this too she cast aside. Her words, as she had built them, were flawless.

“Yes, life is a game of survival to some. If anything, it is a strategy. But if we are surviving alone, why do we gather to create relationships? Are we not surviving together? Are two wolves who mate on a strictly business relationship?”

He was gazing at her now, his curiosity frank and unadulterated. She stared back at him, tilting her head ever so slightly. He intrigued her. His questions, while logical, leaned clearly towards an emotional bias. He was bringing the notions and urges of hormonal desire into a question of logical survival. She couldn’t exactly see how the two connected, but admitted that it was rare one was found without the other. Her lips folded into a somewhat pensive line. She nodded her head along with what he said, respectfully as he had done for her. There was no disagreement in her gaze, no scorn. There was an intellectual light, dim and hidden, but present behind her cold detached professionalism. Such conversation, such banter, was one of the few true joys of her life. She spoke in a calm tone. “I tend to doubt an individual’s ability to survive alone for extended periods of time. I understand the necessity of relationships, of alliance with those of like kind.” She paused, her lips quirking. “As for your question of more intimate relationships,” any other would have shrugged, but Thaddea was almost unfamiliar with the action. She shook her head instead, “I have never felt such an urge and thus can put no explanation to it.”

“Survival is perhaps the first step of living. We accomplish that which is necessary to continue on and grow old. But after we have gathered all we need, what do we strive for then? It is difficult to express the difference in words, as I found survival and life different as I grow older, but maybe it is all just a matter of perspective.”

Thaddea found herself silenced. She couldn’t, in all honesty, answer his question. She strove for perfection, but what then? Did they strive to be remembered? Life was associated with worth, with greatness, with making a “difference”. Yet so often these terms were utterly undefined. She had known affection in her short life, and had luxuriated in it. She had understood the emotional attachment, the desire for continued proximity. Then again, how could she quantify such a thing when she couldn’t remember the faces, names, or relations of those she had once held affection for? The thought sobered her. What did it matter when, in a matter of hours, even this male’s name would be a foreign to her as any others?

He introduced himself and she dipped her head. She had remained silent for a long time, but finally she found it in herself to speak again. “We strive for worth, however it is we define such a thing.” She cleared her throat. Their conversation had drifted into the realm of personal, of more than simple logic and strategy. She straightened, becoming firm and rigid once more. She glanced around, her eyes alighting on one figure after the other. She couldn’t identify a single one. She turned back to this male, Pinion? How long would she even remember his name? “I have little desire to show uncouth behavior to you, but a meeting with your superiors is pertinent.”

How long would she even remember his name? “I have little desire to show uncouth behavior to you, but a meeting with your superiors is pertinent.”

Her reply was logical and well thought out. But despite her confusion, Pinion understood the female had had little time to consider such things. Many silent nights had permitted the brute ask the same question over and over again. What was the difference? Even he was truly unsure of the answer.

Pinion nodded in assent, "My apologies, I did not mean to delay your meeting with the council any further than necessary. I merely hoped to display my thoughts in the hope you may consider them as you unfold your own." With that, the male turned and began the slow, yet comfortable pace through the thicket. Even as he walked, Pinion’s thoughts returned to what the female had said earlier. His curiosity still pulled at him to ask about the female’s past; but Pinion of all wolves knew it was a ridiculous notion. If Thaddea or any of the pack’s wolves asked of his own history, his reply would be filled with whole lies and half-truths. She deserved the respect of the privacy concerning her own life.

As Pinion brushed against the low hanging nettles of the evergreens, a familiar tan female and the Guardian he’d encountered earlier appeared. While they both seemed to be in deep discussion, the hunter cleared his throat to give way his position. “Linnëa, Derek. I apologize for the interruption, but I was hoping I could find someone to accept this female into the pack and assign her rank.”

Linnëa remained calm and placid as Derek simply remained motionless as she, her eyes moving about the scenery around her. That was when she heard the noises of quiet, soft paw steps coming in her direction. Her attention was immediately grasped. Picking her head up, she assumed her more dominant, less doleful posture. Though she wasn't exactly one whom was keen on holding her head so high she might drown if it would begin to rain, she liked to think her dominant stature might make it easier for passing loners to discern whom would be there to accept them. Though she was not sure if this tactic worked, or not, she figured it was definitely worth a good try. She blinked away the images of her past, causing a wave of calm and a strangely blank expression to take over how she looked. It was then, quite in time, that she saw Pinion emerge from the trees. She looked away, giving herself a few more moments to gather her emotions and place them into the corner of her mind, and took a deep breath. Through this breath, she scented a loner in his midst. Hearing the male clear his throat, she did not hesitate to give both Pinion and this unseen loner her immediate attention.

“Linnëa, Derek. I apologize for the interruption, but I was hoping I could find someone to accept this female into the pack and assign her rank.”

She nodded, her eyes passing to the light, soft-hued coat of the wolf that followed behind. She only had a slight glimpse for now, however, so she moved her attention back to Pinion. Though she attempted hard to hide what their current conversation was situated around, the ghosts of her past still caused her to look less energetic and happy than the alphess would normally be. "Quite alright." She gave a light smile to Pinion, further pressing down her bubbling emotions of dreariness and confusion. Now, she looked rather odd, an (almost) forced smile upon her muzzle. "I would be happy to accept her." She stood, rigid and seemingly uncomfortable. Giving a quick cat-like stretch to break the stiffness and hopefully relieve some of the anxiety that plagued her muscles, she proceeded on towards this female, her eyes both curious and cautious of what she was like. But, of course, if the rather quiet Pinion approved, she was assured the female would be pleasant company. She allowed another quiet, welcoming, but subtle smile to appear. This one was more genuine.

As she approached the light pelted wolf, she quickly assessed her out of curiosity. Both lean and muscular, she looked like she would pass in between the ranks of either Scout, or Guardian. Perhaps a hunter. Neither was she very small. Linnëa herself in comparison was not quite as muscular, more of a petite and medium height physique herself. That was the trademark look for a wolf of her pack, however, so she did not dwell on comparing herself. The female held no bright or striking markings that might cause pain to the eyes, they were subtle, soft, and blended. She did not look at all to be a threat, or to be aggressive. Pausing a moment, Linnëa took one more quiet step, settling a few feet from the female. She then dipped her head in greeting, but what came from her mouth was a different language. "Kvetha." She gave an awkward jerk. Thinking or speaking of her history, well, now she knew this could possibly be a consequence. In her pack, they had bordered in two languages. Now she was going to have to actually focus to remain in the one, since she doubted the female could even understand her. Shaking her head, and slightly amused by this, she continued. "Greetings, I mean. Please excuse my language blip." She held back a chuckle. "I am Linnëa. It is a pleasure to see one interested in joining us.." Her gaze moved to Pinion. She was not sure if he'd discussed ranks with her yet, or not. "We have 4 ranks available. Scholar, those whom are interested in healing, herbs, or simply intelligent occupations within the pack. Guardian, for those brave and that wish to serve directly with the protection of the pack. Scouts, those whom guard our borders and alert us of potential threats or loners, and Hunters, whom help to feed the pack when larger hunting endeavors are needed. Feel free to chose any one of these ranks." She sat down, slowly, as to look more relaxed. Of all things, she did not want to cause this loner unneeded stress or anxiety.

Evergreen Forest - Page 11 Empty Re: Evergreen Forest

Post by Elysia August 21st 2012, 11:57 pm

There was something about him that put her at ease. She couldn’t name it, nor would she have attempted to describe it. The rigidness of her spine didn’t melt away. Her head held high and proud didn’t lower even a fraction. Her calculating detached gaze didn’t soften with warmth. Indeed, there were no physical signs of relaxation. Nor, should someone have the ability to read minds, would there have been perceivable signs of emotional relaxation. In truth, she had no anxiety pertaining to the current situation. It was a task to be accomplished, and not a particularly challenging one at that. Yet there was still something about him, something that made his company desirable. But it was not this romantic notion they had discussed briefly in the minutes before. Though Thaddea had never felt this romantic compulsion, she knew instinctively that once she did – it would be unmistakable. No, her feelings were entirely innocent in nature. They were barely existent enough to warrant acknowledgement. They were fleeting, quiet, something that settled in the back of her mind. She sorted them as briskly as she did everything else. Everything was categorized, put into its place. Nothing was out of order. Like her life, she aimed to achieve perfection in even her thoughts.

She remained largely silent, listening to Pinion. His voice ebbed and flowed, at a pitch similar to her own. It didn’t have the cold detached briskness. But there was an honesty to it, a frankness which she appreciated. His apology settled unevenly with her. It caused the slightest of frowns to tug at the corners of her mouth. She had not intended to provoke an apology, nor had she even considered desiring one. If anything, in hindsight, perhaps she should have apologized for cutting off their conversation. But he had already moved ahead, walking with that same calm pace towards two individuals who sat slightly apart. Thaddea kept her head high, her gaze fastened on those two individuals she had yet to meet. Yet her mind still rolled over the apology of the male…the male whose name was already slipping her mind. P-P—Penan? It was something along those lines. She swallowed, a wave of self-loathing crashing in her stomach. He had said his name not minutes before, and yet all that remained was a vague impression of the first syllable. Failure had a bitter taste as it settled on her lips.

She returned her focus instead to the individuals they had approached. The male – whom she was silently referring to as Penan – was speaking respectfully to the male and female they had approached. He addressed them by name, which Thaddea strained to hear. Derek and Linnea. Her ears twitched slightly, yet she stood back. She would move forward when approached, or when the situation called. For now, she recalled her strict steps. Introduce One’s Self. Make a Formal Request. Await Response. Act Upon Response. These words repeated, once – twice – thrice. Penan and the female were conversing, while the male had stayed silent. It appeared the conversation in which they had been previously engaged had been emotionally disturbing on some level for the female. Her feelings were far too prevalent in her gaze. Inwardly, Thaddea doubted this female’s ability to hold a position of authority. What respect could one gain when one’s every thought and feeling were displayed in the eyes? Did it not cause uncertainty in those he or she advised? But she kept this opinion to herself, attempting to give what was known as the “benefit of the doubt” despite her tendency to be rather judgmental.

She smiled a welcoming sort of smile and moved with authority. By this time, Thaddea had seated herself – appropriately slightly behind Penan. She gazed at the female with calm detached professionalism. She had already subconsciously decided to align herself with this male who acted in a way familiar to her. The authoritative yet inappropriately expressive female was speaking, there was a stumbled sort of apology – for which Thaddea did not understand the necessity. She hadn’t detected an error made. She went on to summarize their available ranks. She found herself puzzled. She had determined an order to these things, a process. Her inner process repeated itself in her mind, Introduce One’s Self. Make a Formal Request. Await Response. Act Upon Response. She had done none of these yet. Her name had not even been uttered. How could a semblance of trust be acquired? Would this female be so frivolous in her granting of acceptance? Thaddea remained silent for a long moment, simply meeting the gaze of the female. Her former feelings of doubt increased, though she kept them from her own chocolate eyes. She would continue with her process. She had prepared herself. To do anything less would be flaunting a desire for imperfection.

She spoke calmly, her voice quiet but brisk and cold in a business-like sort of way. It was no different than how she had addressed Penan. “My name is Thaddea,” This was good, step one Introduce One’s Self was complete. “I have arrived within the borders of your territory with the intention of requesting a place among your ranks as a Guardian.” She improvised slightly, insirting the name of one of the ranks the female had designated. Step two, Make a Formal Request was complete. She spoke with studied grace, careful mannerisms. She would accept nothing less than perfection. The first two steps had been completed. The final two were impossible to complete without a reaction. Thus Thaddea fell silent. She would await a response as long as necessary. She had once expected something timely, appropriate, matching her own mannerisms. Upon first meeting Penan, and being stunned by his similarity to herself, she had had hopes that she had perhaps stumbled upon a pack of like souls. That she would enter to find a group of those devoted to the various pursuits of intellect and mortal perfection.

Yet perhaps she had been incorrect. For what she had seen of this female who took authority, well she was nothing like herself or Penan. She appeared to be easily swayed by memory and emotion. Thaddea cautioned herself against snap judgments. Yet her analytical side was carefully calculating this female. She was already beginning to sort the various members of the pack into categories – as was an obsessive sort of habit of hers. She had lumped Penan into a box with herself. The male who had neither spoken nor displayed emotion, yet had previously been in conversation with the emotional female was lingering above the box with Penan and herself, yet could at any moment be switched. And the female was in a box of her own, the box of those unlike Thaddea, those who likely wouldn’t understand her self-seen noble desire for perfection. Likely many would join the female in said box, and perhaps others would be in boxes of their own. It waited to be seen. For the moment, Thaddea focused on two things – the female in front of her, and Penan at her side. It was a strange feeling, a sudden impulsive thought, yet it penetrated her thoughts. Should worst come to worst, she had the feeling that Penan would fight for her.

Derek had been mauling over Linnea's shared memories, trying to reason the best response, when they were intruded upon. He was not sure if he was upset or glad that they had been, his response that he had made, shared far more about him then he wanted. He eyed the newcomer and Pinion with a watchful eye. He was not one to attach needlessly, but he was on edge at the moment. His grey eyes took in the female, she was very formal, and seemed to say her words as if she had no emotion at all. Interesting, but not noteworthy. Many wolves he had met had no emotions, what intrigued him, was he could see her eyes almost assessing the wolves about her, calculating them, and seeming to put them in slots, or places.

His mind decided that then was another good time for a flash back...

A cold smile took over the black face, as the male wolf stood over a cowering brown pup. "Your a coward, nothing more, and nothing like your parents! You think you deserve to be in this pack, you deserve to die little one." A paw swiped out to knock young Derek over. Zeff, Derek's parents beta, swiped his paw out and clawed at Derek's face, thus leaving the young males first scar. "You caused your parents deaths, it's all your fault, either leave this territory, or die by my paw." Zeff had put Derek in his place then, and the young male had left with his tail between his legs, running for all he was worth.

Back in the present, Derek squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head. They were coming more frequently, and anything was triggering them now, why was this happening? Deciding to close himself off from his memories, Derek pulled back his own emotions in an attempt to stop the flashbacks from coming. His grey eyes took a flat look and he stepped slightly away from the other wolves, but still within reaching distance should he be needed.

Now that the khaki female sat, posture relaxed and attentive, before the loner she noticed an odd trait. Every movement on this stranger was thought out, perfect, precise. As if she were a robot. Her facial expressions seemed carefully monitored. This was not too unlike Linnëa's current facial expression, though some emotions leaked through at the present moment, it was because she had just recently opened up to another history wise and allowed the emotions to push through the room she had structured out of what could be compared to zero-balance dwarf-star alloy. She was not having too much trouble masking these emotions, though a few glances at first had seeped through, she now held her calm and attentive demeanor with little trouble. Giving a moments glance to Derek, she noticed he seemed troubled. Perhaps, she would have to continue such a conversation, or at least she would try to lighten his load a bit. He was too upset for the alphess to tolerate, no, she wished the members of the pack to be happy. Returning her gaze, just in time, Thaddea formed her own reply.

“My name is Thaddea, I have arrived within the borders of your territory with the intention of requesting a place among your ranks as a Guardian.”

Listening without fail or disturbance, Linnëa allowed herself no note the tone of this wolf's voice. It was terse, as she seemed to be more business, than preference. She did not bother to fret over this, however, as the female did not seem to be any sort of threat to her, or her pack, nor did she find her threatening. Giving a curt and affirmative nod herself, mimicking the female's conduct just the slightest bit, to where she likely would not even be able to perceive it. Perhaps it would be more homey to her. Besides that, Linnëa already tended to do that without actually meaning to. Though it receded soon after. "It is nice meeting you, and I am glad you've taken interest in joining." She remained sitting silently for a moments, her expression thoughtful and caught in intelligent musings for a moment. "I shall accept you as a Guardian, then, Thaddea. Do your job well. Derek is our lead Guardian, and you are under his command when it comes to your duties, unless otherwise stated. For now though, take a day or so to get acclimated to the pack. And, if you need anything, feel free to ask. There is a river that is around a ten minute walk from behind where I now sit, if you wish to drink, and it is plentiful with many fish." She gave an amused look directed to Pinion. "But beware, they enjoy to hit if you're not careful." Her gaze was still on Pinion, as she choked down a slightly mischievous smile. She was still waiting on that "Revenge" he had promised. Her tail tapped the ground several times, she felt her normal, light hearted energy returning. She did not forget about Thaddea, however. This was obvious as she turned to give the female one last, dismissive farewell with a dip of her muzzle. She then departed, loosely and briskly moving to Derek once again.

He held a blank stare now, which lightly concerned the female. Allowing one emotion, which was slight worry and confusion, to escape her, she slowed her pace for a moment. The male seemed to awaken suddenly, eyes closed tight, and the front half of his frame shook lightly. Then, the eyes of the male reappeared, flat and even sorrowful. She followed his step away, moving towards the male. Reaching him, she gave the male a light poke on the shoulder, just a light touch on the tips of his fur. A quiet murmur then ensued afterwards. "I see my Lead Guardian is troubled. " She raised her eyebrows slightly. "Would you. like to have a chance to talk?" She then paused, and continued on. "Or, we could go and scout a bit. I could get you something to help relieve stress. " A smile appeared, genuine, and kind, as she did indeed wish to help the male but she was not exactly sure how. Quiet company, conversation, material offers, she was not sure what he preferred. None of these things would be trouble for her though, and neither was she really all that busy, so she figured Derek could use her time, if he would allow her to attempt to help in any way that she could.

“My name is Thaddea, I have arrived within the borders of your territory with the intention of requesting a place among your ranks as a Guardian.”

There is a river that is around a ten minute walk from behind where I now sit, if you wish to drink, and it is plentiful with many fish." She gave an amused look directed to Pinion. "But beware, they enjoy to hit if you're not careful."

Pinion listened intently as the two conversed, and a small smile creased his black lips as the female was readily accepted as a guardian. Her voice sounded clear and confident as she briskly announced her name and her desired rank, and his suspicions about the female’s soldier-like attitude were confirmed. She would make an excellent guard under Derek’s command. Even the way she held herself did not particularly show that she would be one to deny any order given to her; if she had been so kind as to respect a male ranked lower than the council, Pinion knew her skill would eventually lead to her climbing the ranks in time.

As Linnëa recounted the earlier day’s adventure by the stream, Pinion felt his eyes meet the clear sky above. “I’d watch what you say, Lines, I still find myself open to the idea of revenge.” He replied, a slight chuckle rising in his throat for effect. He knew it was a risky thing to say to an Alpha all together, but Pinion’s relation to the female and slight air of humor would hopefully make it clear he was addressing her as a friend.

To make up for the joke, the hunter gave a slight nod of his head to the two and turned to face Thaddea. “Congratulations on your acceptance, if there is anything you find yourself confused about, do not hesitate to ask for my guidance.” He said, a breeze stirring the coarse fibers of his coat. “If you are up for it, perhaps a quick scouting trip around the territory is in order. I’m sure we will cross paths with other wolves that live here in the pack, and perhaps we could continue our conversation earlier now that you’ve been cleared by the Alphess.”

“I’d watch what you say, Lines, I still find myself open to the idea of revenge.”

This caused Linnëa's kind smile to turn to vibrant amusement, as she curved her neck as to look at Pinion, her eyes narrowing almost mischievously at the male. Then, she cleared all emotions and gave him a, fake, loathing look, before chuckling herself. Her rather amused look returned, she enjoyed humor perhaps more than she had realized, and a bit of comedy at her expense definitely wasn't something that caused her discomfort. "It would likely be well deserved, considering I did assault you with a fish, Pins. Feel free to sneak up and hit me with a squirrel or something." She chuckled herself. Her smile then dimmed slightly. " I am sorry about that.." Her voice was quieter that time, but audible, and it was true. she definitely had not meant to assault the male with a fish. However, for now, she was mainly concerned for Derek. He seemed far more troubled than her, her reasons for being less content than normal were family and friend reasons, as well as those now, those of the current season. Those were far more trifle compared to those she had hidden for over a year now. But, like her, both of them had higher jobs in the pack, and to do them properly, perhaps a bit of relaxation or something to lighten the spirits was needed. She was done, she was content now. But he still seemed in need of this.

Returning her attention to Derek, the amusement ebbing from her eyes like the quickly receding tide, she left herself to ponder his reaction and answer, with nothing much more to really do at the moment. She thought about taking a seat, but pushed that back for now, as she would possibly be going for a walk in only moments and she did not want to relax just to get up again. With a patient and sympathetic gaze, but not invasive as she shied away from direct eye contact for the moment, she allowed him the time to think and decide what he wanted, or needed. As alphess, she was not just a leader or the biggest bully in the playground. That was not how one acquired leadership, quite obviously. Or, at least, not how one acquires real leadership and real followers. The male from her old pack that had turned mad had proved that much. But, she had also seen the unending loyalty that Silver's mother had been given in return for being a great leader. So, she was more along those lines. Not just the boss. A friend, a companion, a therapist, a healer, and if need be, she would be a guardian as well. Though she was definitely a fan of combat, and would not be for the duration of her life, she would do what was needed. She was a newer alpha, so still, she found it troublesome to gain some of the friends and loyalty that wolves like Crimson had. But, hopefully, this would come in time.

Allowing her suddenly wandering thoughts and pondering's to clear from her mind, she continued to wait.

Smiled as she happily walked lokking for someone to talk to, sadly no one was around.
She sighed sighed still not giving up, as she continued her search.
She looked like a enterjetic puff-ball since her smallish size at the time.

Arisah padded forward, letting Jackie lead the way as the trio explored the forest. As the other female began to recount the tale, Ari listened closely, enjoying the way the story rose and fell and the chopped, accented way the wolf told it. The guardian’s accent was always noticeable, but now more so than ever, as she recounted the words with a sort of easy familiarity that made Ari think she was both a natural and well practiced storyteller.

For her part, the scholar was an attentive listener. Endlessly curious about just about everything, she loved a good story. In fact, it took a fair bit of her willpower to not just sit herself down and marvel at the wonder of it, as she had as a pup—starry eyed and fascinated at the action and resolution filling the air around her. Instead, she did her best to multi-task: listening intently, walking along with Jackie and Finn and casting her gaze about for familiar plants that she might need in the future.

By and large, the young female managed all of this, though more than once she would get so enraptured by the tale that she would forget to watch where she was walking and would, in a fit of not abnormal clumsiness, trip over her paws or a root or something. In such a case, she would drop her head sheepishly, smile and roll her shoulders in a shrug at her companions, determined to cover her embarrassment with good humor.

When the story reached its end, Ari was silent a long moment, mulling it over as the trace of a thoughtful smile curled across her lips. “Sounds like a good tale to explain pack life,” she mused after a moment. “We’re strong on our own, but we each have limits. Together, there’s little we can’t do. It was a lovely story Jackie, thank you for sharing,” with this, she turned to the scout. “What did you think Finn?”

Dago let the assurance of the female, his mate, wash over him. Like a cub nestling to the warmth of others, his heart seemed to soothe itself as it wrapped up in her words. He did believe her, truly, however, the icy blue eyes of the one called Adena still haunted him...

"My lady, when I look upon your face and hear your voice, I know that all is well. I must correct you, though, my love - I do not feel it is I who have erred, but you, and my actions are not a folly, but something almost criminal." His smile returned, crooked as ever. "You've made me a very happy wolf, Cinnamon. And I promise you that I will not fail you in my efforts to prove myself to the wolves of this land."

He knew she would tell him that he had no one to impress here, that regardless of what others thought her opinion was the only one that mattered. He would work tirelessly to ensure that no whisper or aside comment would make her blush or bring her even the slightest tinge of shame. Of course, could she blame him for his worry? His own father had once considered him an embarassment, his siblings as well. His entire pack cringed at his shortcomings, and muttered over his follies. Before, no female would have given him a second look.

Now he had Cinnamon, and he was renewed. A wolf who could now know what it felt to be proud of something, to have something worth treasuring and protecting. He would do his best to be the wolf Cinnamon deserved.

Derek was reluctant to talk to the female about his past fearing any more opening of the doors that were already slowly creaking wide, would damage his mind more then it already was. He was scared of losing himself. So much had happened in the past year and he was neither ready to think about it, and truly face the fact that all he had once loved was dead. Sure he knew his friends were gone, and his mate drowned, but his mind was fearful of accepting this, and what it would do to him. It was almost as if two separate beings were trying to make the best choices for the one of him.

So he would go with the safe choice and reveal nothing, he would just scout and evade. "Scouting seems like the best option, the pack could probably use it." There keep it always about the pack, perhaps she will think that you are job obsessed, and that that is all that is wrong. With a evasive glance at his alpha he stood and waited for her to lead.

Evergreen Forest - Page 11 Falco-1

Padding through the forest, the white male found himself starting to feel his stomach rumble as there was nothing filled in it, nor had been for a few days. His grey tipped ears flicked at the thought of catching a nice juicy hare, or something of the sort. With a decision made to catch something small for himself. Falco put his nose to the ground, and started to work on a trail.

For minutes that passed he had found no scent. But that was soon revealed that a hare's scent passed through it. His tail gave a slight happy wag, and he trotted after the scent quickly. Once a hunter, always a hunter, even though Falco had held the Delta rank now he was still born and bred a hunter.

The predator moved swiftly through the forest, chasing the scent of the hare. He soon caught it up to see a hare ahead of him. The male stopped almost instantly, a paw still mid-air, he crept forth, in silence, placing his hind paws where his fore ones had just left, and his forepaws felt for areas best to step. Creeping closer and closer to the hare he was downwind, so that the hare could not smell his presence. It was perfect.

Once close enough, Falco launched after the hare, into a quick chase that ended abruptly a short few seconds after. The hare laid limp in his jaws, and he sat to eat. His tail curled by his side, he started chomping down on the hare to satisfy his stomach of which demanded the food so greatly.

((OoC: I'm back! :D And now I shall post =P ))

Kall didn't know how long he'd been asleep or when he even fell asleep anymore.
All he remembered was doves, trees, a rabbit.
Then suddenly there was black.
It wasn't a scary black, however, it was quite nice. It was peaceful and calming and it took him until he woke up to realize he was asleep.
He didn't even remember being tired, but apparently he was.

He snapped awake and rolled over, taking quick glances to the left and to the right.
There was another wolf, wasn't there?
That's right, he thought, Ever.
He grew very happy at the remembrance of his friend and soon stood, stretched, then looked around some more.
"Ever?" he called, "Are you there?"
He was still a bit groggy from being asleep and yawned once then sat down, realizing he was probably still too sleepy to see her even if she were right in front of him.

Evergreen Forest - Page 11 Empty Re: Evergreen Forest

Post by Cashel August 26th 2012, 12:48 am

As Apache lay alone beneath the shade of a large tree, he soon found himself drifting off into sleep but yet also a sort of flash back to his past memories with her...

-Dream-

A lone shape, a silhouette of sorts, stood out starkly against the pale blue, nearly cloudless autumn sky. Standing stock-still, the figure seemed rather tall to most eyes, and it was most definitely a canid. The creature seemed almost statue-like, all alone on that hilltop, relishing in the feel of the breeze and fast-fading warmth the sun would soon no longer be able to provide.

Suddenly, the canine moved. Strolling slowly down the hill, the tall wolf made his way to the lower part of the valley, contention and calmness visible on every feature. After a while of traveling, the rather handsome gray wolf reached a small clearing; he could tell this was exactly what he was looking for. Standing along the outskirts of the clearing, the brute's deep voice called out, bouncing gently off of the surrounding timber. "Hello?"

Hello there. You are in the Creston Twister Pack territory. Who might you be?

Left ear flicking in slight amusement, Apache could feel a small, good-natured grin lighting his features; this female, the one who was obviously in charge, had just realized she had been staring at him, and it was, perhaps, the funniest thing he had seen in quite awhile; he didn't much notice her scars. Grin growing wider, the tall brute gave a small, courteous dip of his head before his quiet, deep voice rang out again, gently hitting the female's ears. "I'm Apache. I was passing by, and noticed there was a pack around. Would you mind if I stayed?"

I wouldn't mind at all. Not one bit. In fact, we could use someone like you. I am Nakoda, alphess of the Creston Twister Pack.

A rustle of the undergrowth, and suddenly, there was a gorgeous female beside him. Glancing her way for only a moment, Apache returned his attention to the black fae; looks didn't mean anything to him, and this white female was obviously an outsider, as he himself was. Why pay much attention to her? Tail swishing gently against his long hind legs, the handsome gray male waited patiently with a small, kind smile on maw. The answer couldn't come soon enough.

Feeling strangely relieved at being accepted with ease, although he hadn't been aware that he was nervous in the first place, Apache's grin stretched wider once more. "Thank you, Nakoda. By-the-way, how did you come to lead the Creston Twister Pack?" Tail gently stirring the air behind him, the tall brute was so absorbed into the conversation with this black, gray, and white female, and her honey-gold eyes, that he had forgotten the white female that was to his left.

So, you asked how I started this pack huh? Well I left my birth pack to find my own, but it was all up to Nova actually. I was wandering in the forest when I came across a bear cub. Turns out the mother was nearby and clawed me in the face. I was knocked out and then woke back up, wandering for a while, looking for herbs. But the blood loss got to me and I passed out again. When I awoke, I saw a kind looking brown and white face staring at me, your current Betess. What happened is she healed me, took care of my wounds, and kept by my side until I awoke. That is why we are like sisters now. We started this pack together. She is my second Alphess. This story where I got my...scars from.. I guess I should just tell you now. The bear attack, it...it made me blind, deaf, and numb on the left side of my face. That's why I didn't really see Aoko. And that's why I need Nova. She is my guide

Smile in place, Apache picked up his pace to a slow, rocking lope as he listened to her story; he had to shorten his pace in order to stay in step with and next to Nakoda. Once the black female got to the part of the bear attack and mentioned her scars, where he could hear her hate of them in her voice, the tall brute inwardly cringed. She was sweet and kind and wonderful, scars or not. "I'm glad she was there to rescue you," Apache said quietly, referring to Nova. After a short pause, he said, "I'm sorry you had to go through a bear attack; I know it must have been very painful. But you know what? You survived, and your scars are there to prove what you've overcome. Everyone has scars. Some just have them on the inside instead of the out."

Turning his smile in her direction, Apache was gazing a bit too tenderly into her eyes when a white form suddenly pushed them a part. Feeling his features harden and his handsome brow knit, the male lashed his tail in cold disdain of that white fae. Arrogant, cocky, self-centered, and selfish wolves he could take, but he did not like; not one bit. Taking a step towards Aoko, his manner cool and calm, Apache's deep voice was let into the air. "While you are beautiful, I admit," he started, eying her with disdain, "everything about you revolts me. Any self-respecting wolf, female or male, would not compliment themselves nor try to get attention for rude behavior. Outward appearance means next to nothing, fae, to me and many others. Individuals like you..." As Apache was drawing to an end, he glanced up and down Aoko's stunning figure with his deep green eyes before shaking his head and closing his eyes for a brief moment. "They sicken me. What is our world becoming?"

“Congratulations on your acceptance, if there is anything you find yourself confused about, do not hesitate to ask for my guidance.”

Thaddea looked away from the emotional female and back to Penan. She dipped her head to him, a quiet show of her gratitude. While she wasn’t one to ask for assistance (doing so inevitably proved her current imperfection), she appreciated the gesture. And should she ever be forced into a place where groveling to another was necessary, well she would prefer to grovel to Penan. She had a feeling any judgment from him would be limited. As the emotional female had seemed eager to return to her previous conversation, and Thaddea had not desire a prolonged interaction, she was quite satisfied to turn away. The emotional authoritative female had seemed content to accept her quite quickly, with nothing more than an indication of her immediate superior – the male at her side of many browns whose name had been mentioned, but Thaddea had already lost. She let her eyes linger on the male, for just a single moment. He spoke little, a quality she liked.

“If you are up for it, perhaps a quick scouting trip around the territory is in order… perhaps we could continue our conversation from earlier...”

She returned her attention to Penan, as he was speaking again. In her analysis of those present, her mind had wandered. She caught two phrases, both of which piqued her attention. She was no scout, but scouting the borders was still a respectable task – one that would familiarize her with the territory. She appreciated the phrasing as well. He was not patronizing, didn’t dare speak as if he was above her. For as far as she knew, they were equals. And though Thaddea had a high respect for those in authority, she had a great deal of difficulty respecting those who didn’t seem to deserve their authority. Though this seemed, as of yet, not to be an issue. She had found she enjoyed conversation with this male. She saw him as an ally, in her purely logical and strategic mind. He was a tool to work off of in her pursuit of perfection. She inclined her head, her lips twitched – which was as close to a smile as she had ventured.

“I believe such an excursion would be beneficial.” She didn’t thank him. It wasn’t in her habit to do so unless moved to. Her way of thanks was acceptance, acceptance and her form of a compliment. She acknowledged his suggestion as “beneficial”, which in turn made it both astute and sensible – thus making the commenter these things as well. But then again, not all minds worked as hers. She took a step towards him, though paused and glanced over her shoulder. The dark brown male, whom had been indicated as her direct superior, had a brooding look about him. She remembered having been indecisive about where to sort him. Perhaps, she considered, he might fit the box with herself and Penan, or at least one very similar. She spoke quietly, a detached briskness to her voice. “Your presence with us would be welcomed should you choose to accompany us.” While roundabout and unclear, her words towards the dark male were an invitation. She wouldn’t wait for him to accept or deny or make pleasant conversation (though she doubted he would do so). She had things to accomplish, tasks to complete. She turned to Penan, gesturing with her head that he should lead the way. It was another sign of her respect of him. She rarely allowed others to lead her.

Cinnamon didn't return his smile, but frowned instead, replaying his words in her head, listening to the chirp of the birds and the wind blowing in the trees. As she thought she began to walk again, her paws carring her soundlessly across the forest floor.
"How can love be criminal, Gliron? Do explain"

Pinion dipped his muzzle in agreement. There would be no sort of conflict with the two arranging a scouting trip, despite that none of them were of that rank. As the hunter had become more and more accustomed to the packs routines and inner woks, he found that wolf’s rank was less of a strict job, and more of position open to those with a highly developed skill. In Pinion’s case, his solid frame and muscle-lined bones were well fitted for a guard, yet he found that hunting fit his mind best. In the case of Thaddea, her lean body was ideal for a scout, yet Pinion still did not fully understand why she had chosen the rank of Guardian.

“Your presence with us would be welcomed should you choose to accompany us.”
She turned to Penan, gesturing with her head that he should lead the way. It was another sign of her respect of him. She rarely allowed others to lead her.

Something about the way she spoke now suggested a change in her mindset from their earlier encounter; less sure, perhaps about joining or even Pinion himself. His gaze was quizzical for a moment before he shook his head and nodded towards their destination. “It might be best to start at the tree line of this forest, as I believe it nearly borders the edge of the territory itself.” He began, moving to walk at his usual leisurely pace. “I believe Linnëa and Derek are also leaving to scout as well, but they will most likely head in the opposite direction.”

Giving a final nod to the Linnëa and Derek as he went, Pinion once again departed though the thicket. Away from all the conversations usual held amongst the Evergreens, the brute found himself drinking in the silence of forest with ease. Perhaps it was unusual, but the male often found comfort in solitude. It allowed his mind the time to question that which he still found a mystery. A mind clouded and distracted would become ignorant and naïve; oblivious to the dangers of true life, and often losing sight of the dangerous world outside the safety of a pack. Of course, the hunter did not believe anyone of this pack to be ignorant. Perhaps some were, but he had heard from passing strangers that these wolves had known many hardships and cruel losses, and perhaps more were to come.

Evergreen Forest - Page 11 Empty Re: Evergreen Forest

Post by Silver August 28th 2012, 10:44 pm

Reluctance and evasion flashed in the male's eyes. Though, she could understand why. It had taken her months to be able to even consider finding a pack, though never had she even confronted her own past and returned. No, she'd found Silver, and thus ended up here. And then it took even more time to continue on after that, let alone the months that had already passed. Giving a nod, she moved her eyes off, wondering what the male's reply would be. Would it be of calm acceptance, or would he wish to be alone? She was no mind-reader, of course, so it was anyone's guess. Flicking her tail absentmindedly, she looked to Pinion and the new female, Thaddea, exiting in the opposite direction to them. She gave Thaddea a quick scanning gaze as her back was turned, her eyes narrowing just the slightest. She was weird. Perhaps strange was a better title, the fact she seemed to monitor every movement caused Linnëa to believe she herself was not suited for even perhaps a Guardian position. What would happen to her if she did not monitor herself as she did currently? Would she fall into pieces? She questioned the thought of that, combat and guarding in itself was more than perfect precision. Her ears swiveled back so each pointed outward, giving her a curiously uncertain look. But the female was now gone, so with a rather uncomfortable huff of air she turned herself back to Derek just as he himself spoke.

"Scouting seems like the best option, the pack could probably use it."

"Eh, we have males to find all the female loners." With a joking wink, she continued, a small grin playing on her expression now. "It's just the males we have to scout out sometimes." She rolled her eyes, still jokingly, as it was true beyond reason. Especially in spring. Casually flicking her tail, she glanced thoughtfully back to Derek. "Well, let's set off then!" She proclaimed in a rather lame, but perhaps working attempt to lighten his spirits, turning with loose movements to stride away. Only two steps out something huge flitted right in front of her face, causing her to start. Her head immediately whipped defensively to her right, only to see a huge butterfly. Amused at such, she began to focus on where she was going, but of course not fast enough. Tree. Nose collided with bark, and that bark seemed to go through her muzzle and directly out her mouth in a quiet but audible yip of surprise from the sudden collision. Feeling scratches in her nose, she raised a paw to rub her face, looking at Derek with a rather embarrassed expression.
(Butterfly and running into a tree, as you requested, Derek.)

Evergreen Forest - Page 11 Empty Re: Evergreen Forest

Post by Elysia August 28th 2012, 11:05 pm

A wave of calm hit her the moment the forest engulfed them. There was something calming about being surrounded by trees. They made no judgments. In eons, they wouldn’t remember who had spent a moment walking beneath their mazes of branches. They would go on to grow, the same as they always had. Perhaps some would fall, silently succumbing to the give and take of the tide of life. And from it would sprout new life. Its neighbors would continue to reach towards the edge of the sky. Occasionally, Thaddea had wondered what it felt like to reach so high. She’d imagined the exhilaration. But that had been as a much younger being, one given to fanciful imagination and meaningless speculations.

For today, she kept her mind strictly in the here and now, in the real and achievable. She padded at Penan’s side, her ears occasionally twitching. Her gaze took in every root, rock and bush. She committed it to memory, a futile action. In the morning this area would be faint in her memory. But constant repetition would cement it, hopefully. No one ever needed know how she suffered, the shame and self-loathing that greeted her as she reached for a name – for an association, a memory, a fact she had once known – only to come up blank. One would think after many months she would have adjusted, but such a thing was impossible. How could one create a new self, when the old self was so fresh in their minds? She rolled her shoulders, pushing such thoughts away.

She returned to mulling over the male of dark browns. He appeared to be the brooding type, distinctly dark, almost lost in what must almost surely be some loss of his own. But perhaps Thaddea was entirely incorrect. She was but an outsider making meaningless observations. Her tail swished behind her legs, everything about her body spoke of rigidness and a strict alertness. She held no emotional attachment to the pack or to the land, but it now belonged to her as it belonged to them. From a strictly strategic logical standpoint, it was only appropriate that she be defensive. Yet on another hand, she felt no obligation to remain. She was quite certain that should this living situation prove unsatisfactory, she would vanish without the littlest tweak of guilt. She would feel no remorse over leaving those she held no affection for.

It was a cruel blunt truth, but a truth none the less. She wasn’t a being given to forming those intimate relationships, or for valuing them above logic. She was a detached creature, one of strategy and brute honesty. She did what must be done, for what mattered more than all could not be given to her by those she cared for. Perfection was achievable only through herself, only through her own perseverance. If those she neared knew, they would dissuade her – or attempt to. She had seen it before. They couldn’t conceive of the nobility of her quest, of the utter necessity to gain what had never been seen. And for that she had been treated with a wary discomfort. But now was not that time. Now was a new time – a time of triumph, perhaps a time of companionship of those such as Penan.

She turned to the male in question, having fallen silent on their short walk. While she wished the dark male had joined them, she was perfectly content in Penan’s company – even comfortable, as outwardly comfortable as she tended to appear. Her lips took on a pensive pursed expression as she watched the male intently. “Have they taken on meaning to you?” Her tail flicked behind them, indicating the gathered pack they had left largely behind. She was genuinely curious. She had no way of knowing how long Penan had called the pack his own. But she wanted to know if anything had changed, if he had formed the attachment so many did. Or if, perhaps, he was more similar to herself than she had previously expected.
