The Westward Creek Empty The Westward Creek

The Westward Creek MudVolcanoArea_19

In the territory to the west resides a winding creek that flows through a clearing in the trees. Colorful pebbles dance with the current along the bottom, fish flash their bright scales in the sun, and the water welcomes all who wish to cool off or play. When the summer becomes unbearably humid, you will see the wolves of the pack splashing in the sparkling water; but winter will also tighten its grip by coating the surface with ice, making fish unobtainable. However, these waters hold tragedy, as we remember all those who were lost to its frothing current.

Young chickadees chirped in the warm sunlight. The creek flowed calmly in the shade of a maple tree. A young wolf lay in the shore. She was blacked out and wounded. Waves of heat came off of her.

The Westward Creek Empty Re: The Westward Creek

Post by Guest February 20th 2011, 3:17 am

Her nose was raised in the air, ears erect and catching a snap of a twig from the forest behind her. The rush of the large creek wove it's way through the tree's with a breeze, bringing a scent to the female. Mahina stopped looking at the approaching clouds, her gaze falling to the world in front of her. Her head moved ever so slightly, black nose twitching at the scent. Blood.

Her banner twitched behind her, the wolfess standing still for a few more moments. She shook her fur out, the jingle of her collar making a raven look in her direction, tilting it's black head at the canine. Her optics looked about her, resting on a black figure on the creek's shore.

Staying hidden in the undergrowth, Mahina crept towards the wolf, watching from behind the blueberry bush. She felt talons upon her fur, and flicked her ears to the blue jay on her rump, but didn't make a move to shake off the curious bird.

The winged animal hopped to the top of Mahina's head, standing in between the wolf's ears, following her gaze to the other canine on the shore. She dared look at the bird for a second, before letting her gaze fall back to the wounded animal.

From the distance the Delta stood at, the wounds on the black furred animal looked like bite marks, only able to be inflicted by another wolf. Her head turned, there was no sign of another wolf nearby, but that didn't answer her suspicions. The wolf on the shore could have very well been in a fight, and the other wolf's body floating somewhere downstream. The jay sensed the female's fear for the safety of the nearby pups, and squawked loudly at the other wolf. Mahina tossed her head, trying to get the bird to shut it's beak, but it only squawked again, louder this time, as if out of fear for the safety of it's new found four legged friend.

Shadow oened her eyes to the blinding rays of the Sun and groaned. She shifted and breathed in the scent of fresh water. Blinking she she decteced another scent. That of a blue jay and a wolf. She rembered the two wolves who had dared wondered into her territory. They had wounded her, but she had fought them off. She also rembered blindly running through the forest, blood dripping into her vision. She got up and growled.
"Who's there?" she snarled.

The bird stopped it's annoying little show of squawking, but stayed put between Mahina's ears. The she-wolf stayed hidden, thankful that the bird had shut up. She almost jumped when she felt more talons on her back, and snapped her head back, two more blue jays were on her, chirping to each other and the first one, as if gossiping.

With her bird back-up, Mahina poked her head out from behind the bush, followed by her shoulders and front legs, but she didn't reveal her entire self, and was ready to bolt back to the forest and alert Rune at the first sign of danger. "Go back to your home, murderer!" She barked, trying to look proud and capable instead of how she felt on the inside, very small and frightened. "We don't need your kind around here!" The jays took this as their cue to begin their cacophany again, spreading and flapping their wings, calling out aggressively. They didn't want anyone here that upset their small Delta and her pack.

Shadow got up. A confused look on her face aroused.
"What do you mean?" wondered Shadow, her nose scented the wind, the smell of another pack came to her nose.
Shadow shook her head. She tried to take a step, but her leg was too badly injured. She fell and snarled in frustration. Great, now I'm stuck with bird-lover here!
"Hey listen, I dont know what you mean by murderer but a bunch of wolves attacked me where I was sleeping, ever heard of self defence?" she growled.
Shadow wasn't in a good mood, she hated the fact that she couldn't stand up and fight. But she could sence the fear in the eyes of the strange wolf-dog. A falcon cried over head. Shadow tried once more to get up and managed to limp to the water and take a drink. The creek calmed her. Shadow turned around again.
"Erm, would there happen to be any wolves around here who are wise in the ways of healing?"

Mahina didn't believe her. Anyone that was capable of killing another wolf was able to lie. She growled and one of the jays climbed up her neck and sat between her ears, still cawing, calling, and flapping her wings. Mahina gave her a little toss to settle her down. She quieted, but her feathers were still ruffled. "I'm sure the wolf that's dead looks a lot worse than you do." The female retorted, much braver than she usually was. Maybe if she kept up with the attitude and unwelcoming nature, the wolf would get tired of listening to her and leave.

Still extremely skeptical, but growing more confident the more she realized that she couldn't come after her and hurt either her, her family, or the birds (like Vanquish did to her family so many years ago). She felt like, if it was necessary, she would be able to stand up for herself and protect everyone that mattered, despite being small and usually so mild-mannered.

"I know what youre after but I can barley walk let alone attack, and I didn't kill any other wolf, I'm just having a bad day!" she growled.
Shadow shook her head. Seemed the only way to get anywhere was to howl. Howl to call for help, wich she needed.
"Aroooooooo!" she howled.

Mahina darted out of the bushes, watching as the sun vanished behind dark storm clouds, and a flash of lightning broke the peace. She leaped in front of the black wolf, snarling at her. "As Delta of the Banishing Winds I demand your reasons for trespassing!" The bird that had been on her head took flight and joined it's friend in the air, watching the two wolves while lightning and thunder played around them.

She realized her mistake of rushing out of the bushes to confront the wolf, though her leg had healed enough that it didn't need a support, if she got in a fight with this wolf, she could be crippled for life. However, since she still believed this wolf was a danger to her pack, despite her condition, the Delta didn't move, and kept her gaze fixed on the black wolf, banner lashing behind her.

"I got chased away by those wolves but then I faught back. They got scared and ran away. I had a fever, so I rested here." she growled, not flinching one bit.

Mahina growled, lunging forward and grabbing the female's muzzle in a dominance move, throwing her head down near the ground. "What's your name trespasser?" She asked, staring coldly at the wolf beneath her. Should this wolf be lying, Mahina wasn't going to take any chances in bringing her anywhere near the pack, let alone Silver and her pups.

Her gaze flicked towards the forest, it would be a great time for Maiara to come right about now. When she didn't see the alphess like she had hoped, she looked back to the black female. "Where are these wolves?" The delta questioned. Should these wolves be in the territory her pack would really be in danger, and this female would be held responsible by Mahina's own means for leading the wolves on Banishing Winds territory. And, being this deep within the borders, the wolves could be anywhere, using the cover of the storm to launch an attack on Banishing Winds.

Shadow smiled, not letting the pain show on her face.
"How should I know?" sha growled deeply, "Now let go, I'm not going to hurt your pack."
Blood stinged her icy blue eyes. She wished the wolf would relax, couldn't her pack take care of themselves?

Mahina released her grip on the wolf, backing up a few paces, but kept her in a cold stare. She listened to the thunder around her, watching a tree fall on the other side of the creek, the fire at the top burned out by the pouring rain. "Very well, I will go get Maiara, but know this, try anything stupid and I'll shred your ears off, if the pack is not ordered the chase you off or kill you first." She turned, starting to walk away. She went a few meters before turning back to the wolf. "Stay here, and don't take another pawstep towards the den."

Mahina set off at a brisk trot, watching the undergrowth of the forest as it was lit up my the multiple strikes of lightning that danced in the sky above her. Her ears were pricked forward, and her nose twitched, trying to catch the scent of Maiara. She caught the scent and heard voices, one belonging to Rune and the other to Maiara. She stopped dead in her tracks, though she didn't hear the words, she decided not to disturb. The wolfess backed up into the undergrowth, sitting in a small ditch under the cover of large tree, shaking out her fur of the rain droplets. A large yawn escaped her lungs, and the Delta curled up in the ditch, listening to the thunder roar around her.

She raised her head, the small storm had passed a little bit. Rain no longer fell and the only thunder was a small rumble in the distance. The Delta slowly pulled herself to her paws enjoying the cool air around her. Her cream paws extended in front of her, and the wolfess turned to face the direction of the creek. Blinking, she reached down, grabbed a branch full of cobwebs(And a LOT of cobwebs) along with some Burdock and Goldenrod.

With the herbs in her mouth she trotted back to the black female at the creek, dropped the herbs in front of her. "Maiara and Rune are busy, no sense in leaving you here to let your wounds get infected." She took the Goldenrod in her mouth and starting chewing it into a poultice. "Tell me your name stranger." She said, applying the Goldenrod to the worst of the she-wolf's wounds. She did the same with the Burdock leaves, and applied the chewed roots to a slightly infected wound on the wolf's hip. The delta put cobwebs on the wounds that had a risk of bleeding still.

"Nice to meet you Shadow." Mahina finished applying the cobwebs, sitting back to admire her work. She was about to say something when a howl rang through the forest, no doubt it was Silver's howl. She felt talons on her head about 2 minutes later, looking up to see one of the blue jays from earlier. The bird flapped it's wings in a mocking manner, taking off to the air. "I'll catch up with you later." She said to Shadow, standing and trotting after the bird in a small copse of trees.

"O.K., What do you want?" The bird landed on a branch, lifting it's wing and pointing towards Mahina's leg, which she was currently standing on normally. The Delta followed it's line of direction, turning back to the bird a few seconds later. "What about it?" The bird nodded in approval, fluttering down to the forest floor. It hopped along the wet grass, coming to a stop next to Mahina and pecking her leg. "Ow!" Mahina withdrew her leg from the bird, sending a warning glare to him.

The blue jay gave a little shrug, flying back up onto the branch. It pointed to Mina, then to itself with it's wing, fluffing it's feathers in another mocking move. "No, no races." The bird chirped at the wolf. "N O." Mahina spelled out to the bird, her eyes narrowing. The bird chirped again, pointing to Soran, which could be seen where Mahina had left him, the pups still playing their prank. It pointed to itself once more once Mahina saw what the bird has pointed at. She simply rolled her eyes at the bird. The bird was slower than Soran, and Mahina wasn't yet able to flat out run like she had to when she raced Soran. She averted her gaze from the ground to the bird. "Fine, but one race and that's it." The jay chirped in happiness.

"Your call." The bird nodded, chirping three little chirps, then took to the sky off the branch. Mahina loped after it, slowing down whenever her leg protested. The bird looked back to make sure the wolf was ok every so often, and even gave a chirp of surprise when she passed him, hardly, but she passed him when he was flying top speed. And the race was soon over.

Shadow watched her leave. She laid down but the scent of elk carcass drifted to her nose. She got up and walked through the trees away from the river to where a dead elk lay. Shadow smlled the scent of wolves, but decided to at least get one bite before leaving.

Aisha crouched in between two large pine trees, her tail whipping back and fourth furiously as her orange-amber eyes scanned the distance, narrowing when ever she tried to get a closer look. She let out a deep sigh that came from her chest and stood up, stretching her long strong limbs. She turned her large body and started to pad into the forest, her tail flicking this way and that, the wind blowing her pure black pelt.

A chestnut she-wolf made her way slowly down a steep slope, making her way down one careful step after another. She paused once she reached the bottom, glancing around at the pine trees and undergrowth around her. After traveling for so long she didn't know how much farther she could go. She glanced down at her paws; her pads were becoming worn and her paws ached for her to stop. No Selene, She thought to herself. You may not stop... not yet. She sighed before trotting onward.

It wasn't long before Selene stopped once more. She felt it, sensed it, smelled it. There was a wolf pack somewhere in the area. She shifted her paws where she stood uncomfortably. What would they think of her? Would they make her turn tail and flee? So many thoughts came to the she-wolf's mind. She had encountered only a small handful of packs before and they hadn't all been quite so welcoming to her; she hoped perhaps these wolves would be different. Selene began to push forward for a short while more before stopping beneath a tall pine tree. She sat down in the shelter of it's shade to rest her paws, finally giving into their pain.

Derek had broken away from the pack to take a small, but much needed walk. the stench of sickness had brought back far to many memories, and he knew he was not needed at this time. What did he know of healing? And so his paws had led the way to the Creek where the cool water now flowed. He stretched his body, his muscles tight from tension. His night had been foul, and the fear of a member dieing had kept him awake through much of the night.

So it was not till he had settled that he picked up the light fragrance of a wolf, one not of the pack. Not wishing to tense his muscles to badly after they had just started to loosen. He flicked his ears knowing they would pick up the intruder before his eyes did.

After resting for several minutes Selene rose to her paws once again to keep traveling onward. As tired as she was she didn't want to slow her pace now, pack nearby or not. The she-wolf pressed on, soon coming to hear the faint sound of rushing water, making a smile pull at her lips. It had been a while since she had last had a decent drink and the thought of actually being able to quench her thirst excited her. Selene rushed forward, sprinting towards the sound of the bubbling stream. Any thought she had of how much noise she was making by crashing through the undergrowth left as quickly as it came. Right now, all she wanted was something to drink and no fear of being caught would stop her now.

As she reached the stream Selene slowed down her sprint and happily trotted up to the water's bank. Lowering her muzzle to the surface she lapped up the water until her thirst had been quenched. Sighing, she sat down, closing her eyes as a soft breeze blew through her brown fur.

Derek's ears had no trouble picking up the thunderous approach of the wolf. He did not leap to his feet, his years here in Banishing Winds had taught him you caught more elk with cunning and learning then you did by a frontal assault. He rose quietly to his feet and watched as the female dipped her head to the water. She was of slight build and should it come to fighting would not last long. But Derek did not intend for it to end that way. Letting her drink until she was ready he watched as she lowered herself to the ground with a sigh and closed her eyes.

If Derek had been any other wolf he would have laughed or growled, he merely sat there with a amused smile upon his lips, as he watched the female. He wanted to see how long it would take her to notice his brutish form just across the river from her.

Selene let nature calm her nerves. She hadn't had a moment to relax in a long while. This place seemed so peaceful and inviting, no wonder a pack had settled the area. The thought of the pack made her open her eyes once more. She felt foolish, letting herself sit and rest here out in the open, not to mention her loud entrance. She was practically screaming for them to come and get her. Selene rose to her paws once again, ready to turn around and head off when something from across the stream caught her eye. She paused, not moving a muscle as she made out the form of the wolf watching her. She narrowed her eyes, scanning over him. He seemed to be rather large, quite intimidating compared to her rather small size and he seemed to look... amused? Selene frowned. Was he amused with her? Was it so funny to see a wolfess trying to quench her thirst?
Wanting answers Selene trotted along the shore until coming upon some rocks where she leaped half way over before the rocks vanished under the water's surface. Cursing her luck she jumped in and swam to the other side of the stream. As she stepped out once more she shook water droplets from her pelt and padded forward slowly, stopping several yards from the male. "Who are you?" She asked, gazing at him curiously. She guessed he was part of the pack. If that's how big he is, what about the others? The thought of other large wolves frightened her, but she straightened herself up, trying to not show her concerns.

Derek's amusement grew, not at the wolfs fall into the river but her fearful glance at his size. She was not the first to do that with him and he knew the thoughts running through her head. He waited for her question and it was the question that amused him. She was in the packs territory, but she was the one asking the questions? The gleam in his eyes did not vanish when he replied. "You may call me Derek, though i do not really think that is the first question you want to ask is it?" he wrapped his tail around his paws and waited.
